Plan the evening
A wedding DJ needs the running order as well as the playlist. Send the expected arrival of evening guests, first-dance time, any speeches or cake cutting, food service and the venue finish time. That gives the evening a clear structure and helps avoid important moments being delayed or missed.
Reception
Background music, arrivals and any early announcements.
First dance
Cue the correct track and version at the agreed time.
Evening party
Open the floor and build the set around the couple and guests.
The plan does not need to be rigid. Once the first dance and organised parts are complete, the set can respond to the dancefloor while keeping any must-play songs and do-not-plays in mind.
Choose the music
Send a few tracks that represent you as a couple, the first dance, useful favourite artists and anything that should not be played. A shorter, focused brief normally produces a more natural wedding set than trying to prescribe every track from start to finish.
Because wedding guests often span several generations, the set can move across familiar decades, pop, dance, club classics and current favourites while still reflecting your own taste. If there are family favourites, cultural choices or songs linked to particular groups of guests, include those too so they can be placed naturally rather than saved for one isolated block.
Work with the venue
Confirm supplier access, parking, the DJ position and any equipment the venue already provides. If the room is being turned around between the meal and evening reception, the setup time should be agreed with the venue in advance.
A microphone can be included for announcements or speeches where needed. If the venue has its own sound limiter, installed system or restrictions on lighting, send those details before the date so the setup can be planned around them.

Check your date
Send the date, venue postcode, guest numbers and start and finish times to check availability. Include any important music, speeches, announcements or equipment details you already know so the booking can be assessed properly from the start.
You do not need every detail finalised before enquiring. The venue, date and core event plan are enough to establish availability, with the music and running order refined once the booking is moving forward.
