Know the set time
The role of a club set changes depending on where it sits in the line-up. A warm-up should create movement without using every obvious peak-time track, while a closing set may need to manage the room after the main guest has already played. Send the full running order so the set can be pitched correctly.
For guest or peak slots, the promoter brief should include the intended style, audience and any artists or genres being avoided elsewhere on the bill. That reduces repetition and helps the night feel programmed rather than like several unrelated DJs.
Warm-up
Set the room without taking the energy too far too soon.
Guest set
Fit the promoter brief and surrounding line-up.
Peak-time
Deliver the strongest part of the set when that is the assigned job.
Closing
Control the final energy and finish cleanly.
Confirm the booth
Send the mixer, players, controller policy, monitor setup and any changeover requirements before the date. If the venue expects DJs to use installed equipment, the exact models should be clear so there are no surprises during a live handover.
If additional equipment is needed, agree who supplies it and when it can be installed. Club changeovers need to be quick, so equipment questions are much easier to solve before doors open. If there is a shared booth between several DJs, confirm whether USBs, laptops or controllers are changing over between sets so the handover can be planned without dead air or unnecessary rewiring.
Keep the brief clear
A commercial club set, themed student night and specialist promoter event can all need different music. Send reference artists, useful tracks, the age profile and the overall direction of the night rather than only a genre label.
Brief
Confirm style, slot and surrounding line-up.
Changeover
Know who is before and after you and how the handover works.
Set
Play the role you were booked for rather than forcing the same set into every slot.
Audio Demon remains the separate specialist drum and bass identity. If the booking specifically needs liquid, jump-up or tech D&B rather than the broader Aidy Smith club approach, use the Audio Demon route instead. Keeping those identities separate makes the promoter brief clearer and avoids presenting a specialist D&B booking as if it were the same product as a broader commercial club set.
Club Night DJ FAQs
Straight answers to the practical questions that normally come up before the date is confirmed.
What club slots can you cover?
Warm-up, guest, peak-time and closing sets can be discussed depending on the promoter brief and venue.
Can you use venue equipment?
Yes. Send the exact mixer and player models, booth connections and monitor details beforehand.
Do you need the full line-up?
It is very useful. It helps position the set and avoid duplicating the same music direction as other DJs.
Is this the same as Audio Demon?
No. Audio Demon is the separate specialist drum and bass identity for liquid, jump-up and tech D&B bookings.
Can you follow a promoter brief?
Yes. Send the intended style, audience, set time and any tracks or directions to avoid.
What should be included in the enquiry?
Venue, date, set time, line-up, music direction, booth equipment and promoter contact details.
Check your date
Send the date, venue postcode, guest numbers and start and finish times to check availability. Include any important music, speeches, announcements or equipment details you already know so the booking can be assessed properly from the start.
You do not need every detail finalised before enquiring. The venue, date and core event plan are enough to establish availability, with the music and running order refined once the booking is moving forward.
