This August 2026 wedding at Eccleshill Victoria Club was not a booking that had been planned with me for months. I received the call the previous evening after the original DJ became ill, so I stepped in at short notice and was set up for an 11am start the following day.
Around 80–100 guests came through the reception across the day and evening. With no long pre-event planning window, the approach was simple: read the room, take requests and let the music develop naturally as the celebration moved from daytime into the evening.

The room on the day
A compact room that helped the party feel social
I was positioned in the corner opposite the bar, using a white DJ booth with two 12-inch LD Systems ICOA speakers, two Spider lights and a moving head. A large personalised wedding sign helped dress the room and made it immediately feel like the couple's day rather than just another function-room booking.
The side room is not huge, but that worked in its favour for this wedding. Guests were naturally close enough to chat, move between tables and the dancefloor, and stay involved with what was happening rather than being spread across a much larger hall.
Music through the day
Progressive early on, dance anthems by the evening
Because this was a short-notice cover, there was no detailed pre-built playlist. The music developed progressively from earlier in the day, with a broad mix and requests from both adults and children helping shape the direction as the reception went on.
The first dance was followed later by a dance between the bride and her dad, which became one of the most emotional moments of the day and visibly moved people around the room. As the evening developed, classic dance anthems became the strongest part of the set and were the tracks that consistently got guests up and dancing.

About Eccleshill Victoria Club
A long-standing Eccleshill club with a useful function space
Eccleshill Victoria Club sits on Victoria Road in Eccleshill and was previously known as Eccleshill Victoria Conservative Club. A surviving datestone records the older name and the year 1950, giving the building a clear mid-20th-century link to the area's club history.
The club remains an active local venue. CAMRA lists a function room, car park and outside drinking area, while Bradford Council currently uses Eccleshill Victoria Club as a polling place for part of the Eccleshill ward. That continuing community use fits with how the venue felt on this wedding day: informal, local and easy for guests to move between the function room, main club area and outside space.
From a DJ point of view, access to the side room was particularly useful because there is a ramped approach. That mattered during this wedding, where a young wheelchair user was able to move in and out of the room easily and enjoy the music with everyone else.
My view of the venue
Small room, friendly staff, good value
The side room is compact, but I would not dismiss it for that reason. It helped keep this wedding sociable, the staff were consistently polite, and the venue felt like a very sensible option for couples working to a tighter budget.
I was told around the time of this booking that the side room could be hired for about £25 for the day, which would be exceptional value. Venue prices can change, so anyone considering it should confirm the current hire charge directly with the club.
End-of-night feedback
A short-notice booking that turned into a great day
The feedback at the end was very positive. Guests commented that they had enjoyed hearing a bit of everything across the day and evening rather than one narrow style of music from start to finish.
One guest also asked for a business card because she was interested in booking me for her own wedding the following April. For a booking that only came in the evening before, that was a particularly nice way to finish the day and a good reminder that adapting to the room matters just as much as arriving with a fixed playlist.
